Exodus 4:27-31 (HCSB)
Now the LORD had said to Aaron, “Go and meet Moses in the wilderness.” So he went and met him at the mountain of God and kissed him. Moses told Aaron everything the LORD had sent him to say, and about all the signs He had commanded him to do. Then Moses and Aaron went and assembled all the elders of the Israelites. Aaron repeated everything the LORD had said to Moses and performed the signs before the people. The people believed, and when they heard that the LORD had paid attention to them and that He had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.
Listen with Me
As Moses passed by Mount Horeb, the mountain of God, he met his brother, Aaron, just as God had told him he would. After catching up a bit on what had been happening in both their lives, Moses shared with Aaron about his encounter with God, what God had told him, and what He had commanded him to do. Unlike Moses, Aaron had no problem taking up the part of the task that he had been assigned, and they both hurried back to Egypt.
Once there, Aaron called together the elders of the people. He shared with them how God had appeared to Moses on the sacred mountain, and that He was acutely aware of their suffering. What’s more, God was starting to act on their behalf, and He would soon have them set free so that they could meet with Him at the same mountain.
Some were initially doubtful – after all who was Moses that God should appear to him on their behalf? But the three miraculous signs persuaded them, and they all fell on their faces before Moses and Aaron, and they worshiped God.
None of them really understood at that point all that would be involved in obtaining their freedom, or how long it would take. And because of that, God knew that some of them would grow frustrated as events unfolded. But God had in mind the fulfillment of the whole promise he had made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. That included not only their escape from slavery, but the conquest and possession of the Promised Land as well. That would all take some time to accomplish.
Pray with Me
Father, it really is easy to become discouraged when Your promises aren’t fulfilled with the snap of Your fingers, but when the fulfillment has to unfold over years, decades, even centuries. But sometimes for us as individuals, the journey is the destination, and for the rest, the journey does an important work in our lives, our hearts, and our relationship with You. Help me, Lord, to patiently walk with You through the whole process on the way to the fulfillment of your every promise, so that I can reap all the benefits along the way. Amen.
