A day of contrasts. First of all, we had a marvellous time driving through a good-sized chunk of Idaho at a wildlife refuge that has a bunch of raptors (birds like hawks, and eagles, and kestrels). We drove all over for about 5 hours, seeing several birds (as well as some Townsend Ground Squirrels, which Sharla really liked), as well as the unbelievably beautiful terrain around the Snake River Canyon. We even hiked a short trail that passed by dozens of petroglyphs (native American rock carvings).
After that we drove on into Salt Lake City, where we will do the tourist thing tomorrow and spend the night again before heading off for the Arches on Thursday morning. Right on time.
The downside is that my cold has taken a pretty marked turn for the worse. This evening I developed a fever, and I’m feeling pretty lousy. Last night was a rough night, with me awake coughing except for brief snoozes between 2 and 5 a.m. Anyway, I’m taking some Nyquil tonight (usually helps in a situation like this), and hopefully will sleep well and wake up feeling WAY better. Please pray!
Til tomorrow,
Will & Sharla
