Psalm 139:7-12 (NIV):

Where can I go from your Spirit?

     Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

     if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

     if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,

     your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me

     and the light become night around me,”

even the darkness will not be dark to you;

     the night will shine like the day,

     for darkness is as light to you.

There is no place in heaven, or on the earth, or under the earth that is hidden from the eyes of God.  The human mind, as amazing as its capabilities are, cannot grasp, can barely imagine a being like the one true God, who can hold together a universe that stretches for as unimaginable distances as the one that we inhabit, let alone who can see every star at once, can know every comet and asteroid in every star system, and can simultaneously hear every voice, every thought, of every person on the earth.  But the true God does all of that continually.  Nothing escapes His notice; nothing is below His attention threshold.

There is nowhere that anyone can go to escape from God and his all-seeing eye – no one ever falls off His radar.  Whether on the top of the highest mountain, or in the depths of the deepest mine, God still sees and hears.  Even in the highest heavens and in the depths of hell, God can see and hear everything that goes on.  He is not restricted to a particular place, as the ancient gods were believed to be.  He is always present, and always working, on every hill, in every valley, and in every country and state of this world.  He fills every spot with His presence and influence, even moving minds and hearts of people, so that His plan will ultimately be accomplished.

And His eyes and ears are just as sharp in the dark of night as in the full light of day.  Those who wait until dark to do their evil deeds only hide them from men, not from God, because He sees perfectly by heaven’s eternal light, not by the light of the physical world.  He sees not only the actions of the people of the earth, revealed to His eyes 100% of the time, but His eyes uncover the very motives of their hearts – even seeing when good things are done with underhanded motives.

Those who do wrong should always feel dread and fear, knowing that God is always watching, always seeing.  But those whose hearts are pure, whose motives are unsullied, and whose goals are for His glory and the expansion of His kingdom, His rule here on earth, should always walk in confidence, knowing that His eye and His hand are always on them to guide them, shelter them, and ultimately to bring them to Himself.

Father, I thank You and praise You for watching our ways so well.  Help me, every day, every night, to stay right in the center of Your path, so that Your ever-watching eyes see nothing but a heart striving to bring glory to You.  Amen.
