Psalm 18:29-36 (NIV):  With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.

For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God?

It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.

He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights.

He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great.

You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.

God can and will strengthen any who call on Him, and empower anyone He calls who will respond and turn to Him for what they need.  It is no good to try and fulfill His calling in our own strength; God always calls people to that which is beyond their capabilities, so that, when we succeed, the glory goes to Him, so that there is nothing to foster pride or self-reliance in His people.  Instead, we will proclaim our own powerlessness and His empowerment to all who will listen.  Far too many Christians take one of two paths:  either they rely on their own strength, achieving only human results, they believe that their calling is too difficult (or too scary!), and do nothing. But there are a few who acknowledge the human impossibility of what God has asked them to accomplish, and so turn to Him for His empowering.  Those followers accomplish massive things for the kingdom, but shun the spotlight, because they know that it was God, not them, who did it.

Father, thank You for Your impossible callings, AND Your empowerment that makes every impossible thing possible.  Amen.
