We all started out bright and early (5:30 or so) this morning, with good spirits (although most of our spirits could have used about 3 extra hours sleep!), and simmering excitement. After a few brief stops and a breakfast of Costco muffins, we hit the road in earnest at about 6:30.
All went smoothly, except for on small alarm just before we hit Nevada: the air conditioner in the van started blowing hot air. It turned out that is just got overheated from being run on high too long. Once it had a chance to cool off, it started cooling us off very nicely again. We also had a bit of confusion in Fernley, Nevada, due to conflicting GPS instructions. We finally got back on track by reverting to good old paper maps!
The scenery along the way had moments of wonderful beauty, with the snow covered Cascades and Mt. Shasta watching us pass by during our first hours, lakes and ponds, and old picturesque farmhouses livened up the scenery. And just as the sun was setting, a thunderstorm over the mountains of western Nevada added a beautiful finishing touch to the day.
It’s late (about 12:15 a.m. Friday), and we have to be ready to load the van by 8, so I’ll sign off just as soon as I attach a few pictures of our adventures. Please keep praying for safety, good health, and opportunities to be a blessing.

Love you daddy, thinking about you all the time 🙂 travel safe please!!!
Enjoyed reading day one! It must have been a long day, I can’t find day two. The day you left for Az. my dad ended up in the hospital. His blood was too thick and he was confused. He is home again, and I’m glad I am here for father’s day. Denny and I are thinking of each of you, and praying for you. Is Carol o.K? Have a wonderful Lord’s Day! Enjoy those tacos.
I was so tired that I didn’t do a day 2. I included all of that info under day 3, though. Hope all is well back home.
