Psalm 106:14-15 (NIV):  In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wasteland they put God to the test.
So he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease upon them.

God loves all of His people, and has promised to give us all that we need to do all that He has called us to do.  But when God’s people rebel, when they take the bit between their teeth and come to Him with demands and ultimatums, then they will receive discipline instead of blessing.  God might even provide what they are demanding, but there will be a cost to all who are making those demands.  There is no one who is so righteous in their own right that they can make demands of God, or put Him to the test.  Jesus, who was perfectly holy and righteous, and who actually is part of the Godhead itself, didn’t even presume to make demands of the Father.  Instead, Jesus completely humbled Himself, and asked only for His daily bread.  The rest of the time He listened humbly and obeyed God’s every command.  THAT is the model for God’s people.  That is the way to fullness of life instead of wastedness, leanness of soul.  That is the way of the Christian.

Father, I thank You for every blessing You have provided.  I praise You for the love and grace You have shown me over the years.  Help me, Lord, to ALWAYS come before You with a humble heart, in the very spirit of Jesus, so that I can do Your will every day.  Amen.
