Luke 11:29-32 (NIV):  As the crowds increased, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It asks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.  For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation.  The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now one greater than Solomon is here.  The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.

In all of mankind’s great search for wisdom, especially the wisdom of the ages, the great standard that will help the people of the 21st century to live well, prosper, and not destroy themselves or the planet in the process, the greatest wisdom ever is overlooked, sometimes out of ignorance, often willfully.  Jesus’ wisdom far surpasses that of any other person, before or since, because it is the wisdom of God.  Solomon had greater human wisdom than anyone before him, but it was merely human wisdom magnified by God, and he turned away from it as he grew older.  Socrates and Plato were great reasoners, adored and sometimes feared by their contemporaries and by people across the ages, but their reasoning led them only to small corners of true wisdom.  Jesus was and is God, and was the one through Whom all things were created by God, and in Him is all the wisdom of the GodheadWhen Jesus spoke, He did not speak as a product of His time, but as the Great I Am who knows everything.  When He told the people how to live in the kingdom of God, He did not speak philosophically, but as the One in Whom the kingdom was embodied. When He told people how to live forever, He spoke not as a dreamer, but as the One Who was, even then, making the way for them into the kingdom through Himself.  If people want to be truly wise in every way, they make themselves fools if they look anywhere else but the One who was and is wisdom incarnate.

Father, Thank You for the wisdom You give us through Jesus.  Thank You for making it plain!  Amen.
